Dexerto are looking for an experienced games journalist to take on the role of Games Features Editor. The right candidate will lead the ideation, organization, editing and publishing of our features in gaming, including ranked lists, interviews, opinion pieces and columns, and any other creative features.

This is a remote opportunity and, as such, we welcome applications from all over the world.

The ideal candidate will need…

Gaming knowledge

The ideal candidate will need a broad knowledge of a wide range of games, including big releases on all major platforms.

Great Ideas

We need a creative journalist with great ideas. We require a mix of original creative ideas and classic regular formats. While publishing classic feature ideas that have been used in other media before (eg. ranked lists) isn’t to be discouraged, we need original features too. You will also need to be able to discern between good and bad ideas and have the confidence to reject pitches.

Great planning and organizational skills

You need to be able to plan features around big releases, together with the Games Editor, Guides Editor and Features Editor. We need a steady flow of features every week, but you also need to be agile and able to bounce off trending moments.

Writing and Editing skills

You need to be a great writer with strong editing skills as you will be editing all planned gaming features and giving feedback. You need to make sure all ideas and writing fits our tone of voice. You will be expected to write some features too.

Interviewing experience

You need experience of interviewing people for features

Some management experience

As you will be leading a small team of feature writers, you will need to be able to have strong people management skills, This will be necessary when rejecting ideas or improving work.

Contacts

Contacts in the games industry would be ideal, both with writers and PR. You need to be able to secure interviews, but also commission good writers and encourage pitches.

SEO knowledge

You will need strong SEO knowledge

Analytics knowledge

You need to be able to use Google Analytics to analyse the performance of features.

Social media experience

It would be useful to have some social media experience so that you may share our features on social media.

Communication skills

You will need to be confident and communicate with features writers, freelancers and the Editor in Chief.
