Deviation Games is looking for a Senior Lighting Artist to add real-time dramatic and memorable lighting in environments and cinematics for AAA game projects. The Senior Lighting Artist will work with a team of artists, programmers, and designers to develop cutting-edge visuals and atmosphere for the game world.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Art Director and other team members to produce immersive environmental lighting that matches an established visual target
- Generate environmental lighting that suits a specific mood, atmosphere, and gameplay intent
- Be responsible for creating and managing assets, including textures, colors, atmospheric effects, HDR skies, and other aspects of post-process production
- Create compelling lighting while maintaining performance within the game engine
- Edit objects and textures if needed to amplify the lighting of a scene
- Collaborate with other teams to achieve a visual target and solve lighting-related matters
- Relay constructive feedback and share methods concerning lighting and tools for the production pipeline
- Work with other artists to establish lighting techniques and methodology for best practices
Qualifications:
- 4+ years game industry experience working as a Lighting Artist
- Minimum of 2 shipped AAA video game titles
- Expert knowledge of lighting techniques, pre-rendered/real time, with an emphasis on global illumination, dynamic lights, ambient occlusion and pre-baked light maps
- Knowledge of Physically Based Rendering methods and standards
- Ability to find creative solutions around engine performance challenges related to lighting
- Excellent eye for color, shadow, light, and atmosphere when lighting environments
- Be self-motivated and make informed choices when working alone
- Knowledgeable and proficient in Photoshop, Maya, 3DS Max (expertise in one primary 3D software program preferred)
- Meet deadlines in a quick and efficient manner
- Flexibility and interest in learning new software programs
- Show exceptional communication skills, both oral and written
- Have a zeal for the game industry, and video games in general
- Position is on-site in Santa Monica, CA, must be willing to relocate if necessary
