We are seeking experienced Full Time Shader/Material Artist to work on video game projects at Decoy Games. As a Shader/Material Artist you will deploy your excellent understanding of Unity3D and/or Unreal and Substance Designer to create and optimize shaders for all assets including characters and environments. This role is important for look development and for optimization of shaders for performance.

Responsibilities

  • Works with technical artist to develop advanced shader and material sets

  • Create shaders for human characters as well as fantasy.

  • Shader development will cover a wide range of styles from stylistic to photorealistic.

  • Shader and texture development will be based heavily on reference artwork, paint overs and look development target imagery.

  • Researches new tools and techniques to create more efficient and visually appealing environments.

  • Collaborates with art leadership and art teams to establish, organize and maintain our material library across all game content.

  • Creates high quality physically based materials using software such as Substance Designer/Painter to establish visual targets and support art efforts across all game content.

  • Maintains a consistent style under director of production designers, art directors and creative directors.

  • Work closely with TD’s to ensure the pipeline is as efficient as possible.

  • Research into new shader development techniques and apply to production.

Qualifications

  • Expert skills in Substance Designer/Painter

  • Solid understanding of PBR rendering and the interaction between materials and lighting

  • Portfolio demonstrating a wide variety of tiled and one-to-one materials created using both procedural and 3d sculpted techniques and showing attention to detail, plausibility and an aesthetic eye

  • Ability to follow concept/reference and ability to work with wide range of styles with minimal concept and direction.

  • Experience with high poly sculpting and modeling software such as Z-Brush & Maya

  • Experience with 2D image creation software such as Photoshop, Painter, 3D coat, etc.

  • Strong experience with developing and compiling shaders within Unity and/or Unreal essential.

  • Experience with subsurface shaders (skin) advantageous.

  • Strong experience of lighting both from a technical and artistic perspective within Unity and/or Unreal.

  • Good understanding of modeling, rigging, animation, UV mapping, texturing and rendering is advantageous.

  • Experience with OpenGL GLSL/HLSL advantageous.

  • Strong organizational and communications skills along with understanding production values, deadlines and priorities

  • Experience with FX shader work advantageous.

  • Must be eligible to work in United States

Preference to Applicants With

  • Experience developing in Unity

  • Knowledge of scripting (Python, Mel, C# scripting in Unity, and/or Unreal Blueprint) useful.

  • Experience with developing shaders in Shaderlab for Unity and/or ShaderFX for Maya essential.
