About The Role
G/O Media is looking for a Features Editor for Deadspin, our sports news site, which has broken some of the biggest and some of the most inconsequential stories in sports over the past several years.
The ideal candidate will have a background in investigative reporting and/or as a beat writer covering a team in a major sport. The position doesn't necessarily require a background in games or esports—the expectation is that they will build a beat essentially from scratch—but does require a gut-level enthusiasm for gaming, the willingness to treat esports as a serious concern deserving serious consideration, and the reporting chops to corral all of that into a coherent section. This is a position for a person with an intolerance for hype, and they will be expected to report independently while developing inside sources to both break and aggregate news about everything from scandals to genuine excellence.
G/O Media is deeply committed to fostering a transparently inclusive workplace environment and people of color, women, people with disabilities, veterans, and LGBTQ candidates are very strongly encouraged to apply. Our company-wide mission is to reach very diverse audiences and so, we are deeply committed to having teams and leaders that reflect this mission.
This position is based in Chicago.
This is a position covered under the collective bargaining agreement with the WGA-E.
