Position Summary
Crystal Dynamics is seeking a skilled Concept Outsource Artist to help maintain the art quality bar for our projects, and work with our external development partners to meet or exceed it. As a Concept Outsource Artist you will guide external vendors in the creation of high-quality art assets, having a broader impact on Crystal Dynamics products than in a traditional artist role. The successful outsource artist should be able to produce content at a high-level, hands on as needed, as well as train others on how to use our proprietary tools as well as industry-leading art creation techniques. The ideal artist has the drive and motivation to learn the essential communication skills to be successful.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Work with the Art Director, Leads and Outsourcing Manager to establish, maintain and deliver against the art delivery bar for our game projects
- Provide feedback and direction to external partners on concept related assets
- Create detailed documentation, reference, and examples to facilitate the creation of quality deliveries
- Collaborate with internal teams to create and polish assets
- Coordinate with production team to track asset creation progress and delivery schedule
- Finding innovative solutions to visual, production, and technical challenges
Essential Requirements
- 2+ years of experience as a concept artist with a portfolio demonstrating various types of art (character, environment, weapons, etc) in a realistic style
- 1+ years working at a game studio, providing feedback to vendors
- Exceptional understanding of anatomy, color, mood, lighting and architecture with a keen eye towards form, shape, structure, and silhouette
- Experience in popular 2D art packages such as Photoshop, Painter, etc.
Bonus Skills & Experience
- Experience working in Unreal Engine
- Previous experience working with external partners
- Familiarity with 3D modeling programs such as Maya, Zbrush, and/or Modo
