This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Technical Director to join the team behind Total War, Alien: Isolation, and Halo Wars 2, to create unforgettable game experiences on a new project. Our studios are based in Horsham, West Sussex.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for keeping an engineering team healthy, productive, and guided in the right direction. This position’s primary responsibility will be to provide technical direction, mentorship, and guidance for the team of engineers that builds the game.

You will have an understanding of how to balance technical concerns, with the needs of the game and business, to deliver a long running franchise providing clear technical vision.
Key Responsibilities
As Technical Director, you will be taking responsibility for the technical aspect of building and developing a new team. Initially working with a core team and subsequently growing and building technical, and leadership, expertise to support growth in line with delivery requirement of the game.
On a day-day basis, you will:
- Provide technical direction, mentorship, and guidance to the technical part of our team
- Guide the team into successful Leads, Principles, and future Directors
- Work closely with production staff and other Directors to establish technical tasks and manage schedule requirements
- Establish, promote, and apply the core values of the team
- Represent the engineering team in regular Management and Business-review meetings
- Rally the technical team into a single unified direction that supports the future of the game.
You will review and oversee completed engineering tasks in collaboration with the production staff, other leads, and directors. In the role of Technical Director, you will be using your commercially proven coding skills and expertise to help improving our existing gameplay and craft new and compelling features for future titles.
Collaborating and problem-solving with the wider game development team on the project - designers, programmers, artists, brand managers and testers - to bring suggestions from an idea to a released feature. You will be expected to work with and create unity and respect between all disciplines working on the project.
Knowledge, Skill and Experience
Essential
- Significant previous experience leading engineering teams
- Experience using Unreal Engine
- Proven professional C++ programming experience and thorough knowledge of software design practices
- In depth understanding of the technical challenges involved in taking a game from concept through to release
- Desire to work in a collaborative environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to enable effective collaboration across the project
- Enthusiastic about modern development techniques.
Desirable
- Experience of fast iteration prototyping
- Experience of Agile practices
- Experience in DevOps and CI/CD related technologies and mindset
- Avid gamer.
