This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Lead Gameplay Programmer to join the team behind Total War, Alien: Isolation and Halo Wars 2, to create thrilling game experiences on a new project being built in Unreal Engine 5 (UE5). This will be based at our studio in Horsham, in the heart of West Sussex.
You will be working with a cross-functional team of programmers, designers, artists, QA and brand. Using your technical expertise, you will work collaboratively with design to engineer the creative vision and provide alternative solutions in the face of technical limitations.
Flexible working at Creative Assembly includes hybrid, fully remote within country of employment for eligible roles, and in-studio. This role is Hybrid and has an expectation of one day every fortnight in our Horsham studio. This role would consider fully remote working within country of employment, in exceptional circumstances. Further details can be discussed during the recruitment process.
Key Responsibilities
On a day-to-day basis, you will:
Lead a team of programmers and work closely with other disciplines to deliver on the vision of the game
Bring your technical expertise and experience into helping team members with solutions to technical problems
Keep up with the latest software engineering principles, practices, and technologies
Provide mentoring and guidance to the game coding team.
Knowledge, Skill and ExperienceEssential
Experience in prototyping and rapid iteration of gameplay features
Extensive professional C++ programming experience
Experience coaching and mentoring a team
Knowledge of common algorithms and data structures and ability to apply them
Deep knowledge and understanding of gameplay systems; including character movement, animation, artificial intelligence, and camera systems
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to enable effective collaboration across the project.
Desirable
Experience in using Unreal Engine 4 or 5 on a AAA title
Have acted in a lead role on at least one shipped title
Development experience on consoles
Passionate about games and solving technical problems.
