Position Summary: The Esports program director is responsible for the development, coordination, and administration of all Esports. The Esports program director is expected to meet the regulations of the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE), manage the Esports program in accordance with the policies and procedures of Cottey College, as well as, athletic department specific rules and regulations.

The Esports program director recruits students into Cottey College to meet roster minimums; focuses on retention by providing an outstanding student-athlete experience and guides students appropriately on academic and other issues; enhances the physical, mental, and social development of student-athletes through practices, outside competitions, other activities including community service, and provides a connection point for the campus, alumnae, and the Nevada community.

The Esports program director is expected to recruit student-athletes that can be successful academically, socially, and athletically at Cottey College, meeting a minimum roster size. The Esports program director is to instruct and prepare the student-athletes for intercollegiate competition (NACE) and other competition and tournaments; schedule and coach intercollegiate matches and tournaments; and coordinate a team community service program.

The Esports program director should have experience involving multiplayer online video games with team-based elements. The Esports director should demonstrate a vision for the program which should include a recruitment and growth strategy, as well as the selection of the games in which the institution competes.



  • Instructs, teaches, and coaches student-athletes during practice and competition
  • Conducts video analysis and instruction as a teaching and preparation tool
  • Plans practice and/or competition strategy
  • Fosters a team environment and sense of community which supports the retention of student-athletes and growth in ability
  • Coordinates scrimmages and matches with other schools, as well as in-season and off-season practice schedules
  • Identifies which game titles should be pursued by the Esports program to ensure these pursuits align with the mission and vision of the institution


  • Identifies, evaluates, and recruits potential team members to Cottey College
  • Retains current Cottey College students as team members
  • Ensures the program meets annual squad size number
  • Ensures program recruiting activities adhere to College and NACE policies and procedures
  • Identifies and implements a strategy to increase the visibility of the Esports program through streaming platforms


  • Ensures ongoing eligibility of student-athletes in the Esports program and monitors their academic program
  • Provides schedules for competitions that are fiscally efficient and spectator friendly
  • Conducts inventories of uniforms, supplies, and equipment to ensure effective maintenance of physical resources
  • Effectively uses fiscal resources to coordinate, facilitate, and manage team travel and recruiting
  • Insures the program participates in at least one Champions of Character activity annually
  • Serves as the primary spokesperson for the program in the community, leading at least one team community service projects annually
  • Works with the Sports Information Director (SID) to provide accurate data for individual and team accomplishments, as well as game scores
  • Provides reports and documentation when required by the athletic director

Credentials and Experience

Any combinations of education and experience providing skills and knowledge needed for performance of required duties. Listed are the qualifications necessary for this position:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Competitive Esports experience involving multiplayer online video games with team-based elements and expert knowledge of such games
  • Ability to demonstrate a long-term vision for a collegiate Esports program at Cottey College
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid certified or ability to complete once hired
  • Driver’s license with Class E endorsement or ability to obtain once hired
