Senior Gameplay Animator
Compulsion Games is a first-party game studio and subsidiary of Microsoft’s Xbox Game Studios, located in Montreal, Canada.

Our games have won praise for their art, music, world-building and engaging narratives and we are now excited to be working on our next major project, which we can’t say too much about, just yet.
You might have noticed we like to take on troublesome themes and create characters with compelling, human flaws. Our story-telling typically has a healthy dose of darkness and comedy thrown in for good measure.
We’re looking to add a talented Gameplay Animator to the development team who are working on our next iconic game. The ideal person should have an impressive portfolio of preferably in-game animation work, in addition to cinematics, which demonstrates their ability to support keyframe focused bi-ped and quadruped animations. We are not a studio that uses motion capture data, so the ideal fit for us would be someone who is a competent keyframe Animator.
Our pipeline supports Maya and we work with Unreal Engine, so previous experience and proficiency with those tools is definitely preferred. We would also like someone to have experience working throughout the pipeline from basic rigging to hooking up in-game states. The person should be skilled in setting up state machines and supporting both first-person and 3rd person creature animations, so the ability to keyframe animate is imperative.
In this role, you will be working closely with the Narrative Director, Programming and Design teams to implement in-game animations to help bring our characters and world to life. You will be responsible for pushing the boundaries of the quality and content for the gameplay and some cinematic animations that narrate our story and make for a more compelling gaming experience for players.
We’d like you to have at least 2-3 years experience in the games industry and preferably with a track record of high-quality shipped games. From this, we expect you to understand the fundamental principles of working in a diverse and multi-disciplinary team and the life-cycle of a successful project.
Specific Role Requirements:
- 3+ years experience in Games.
- You must have experience with gameplay and in-game animation.
- You should be confident creating complex animation systems (more details) and be competent in building tools to support the pipeline in Maya.
- Ideally, you will have worked in Unreal Engine 4
- Any additional technical scripting or coding experience is a major plus.

This is a full-time position, with full salary and studio benefits based in our new Downtown location, by Atwater Metro station. Our new studio is currently under construction, which we’re excited to be moving into once the situation with COVID-19 safely allows us to do so.
