Cloud Imperium Games is looking for a mid-level video editor to join us in our Los Angeles studio!

Cloud Imperium Games is a fast-paced video gaming company on the cutting edge of technology developing two AAA titles: Star Citizen and Squadron 42. We release linear content to our growing fan base – cinematic trailers, commercials, high-end serialized documentaries, behind-the-scenes recurring series, live-stream Q&A with our developers, and other experimental content.

As both a creative and technical position, the video editor will be a storytelling visionary, cutting live-action, cinematic, and gameplay footage into resonant, authentic linear content. You'll collaborate with the Global Video Production team, including producers, writers, and editors, as well as the Marketing team, in general, to help strengthen relationships with the player community and build better ways to tell stories. Reporting to the Senior Editor, GVP, your editing room experience, inspired creative vision, collaborative spirit, and problem-solving prowess will keep players talking long after they've stopped watching.

Responsibilities:

  • Creating engaging edits with strong storytelling, narrative and pacing with sophisticated and effective shot choices
  • Edit both docu-style and animated content
  • Collaborate with the Global Video Production team to deliver projects from inception to delivery
  • Collaborate creatively with directors, producers, and cinematographers to advocate editorial needs and creative vision in pre-production and production
  • Strong skills in temp sound design and music selection
  • Clearly communicate, in collaboration with the project creative lead, vision and intent to * * Composers, Sound Designers and Audio Mixers. Occasionally doing final mixes on lower budget projects
  • Ability to assess and communicate to production accurate estimates of the time required to complete as envisioned. Or on tight turnaround, present solutions of what can reasonably be achieved well in the time allotted. Regularly update Senior Editor, Post Producer and Assistant Editor on your project(s) status and needs
  • Be flexible to the needs of a dynamic schedule, maintaining an awareness of other projects currently in Production to be able to jump in at any moment, if the needs arise
  • In collaboration with Producers, help manage the tracking of overall project notes through Premiere and Frame.IO
  • Other such duties and responsibilities as assigned by Cloud Imperium reasonably consistent with employee’s skills and experience

Requirements:

  • A minimum 3 years of professional editorial experience
  • High level of proficiency with Adobe Premiere Pro
  • Must be willing to work in the Los Angeles Area (although will be working from home until it is safe to return to the office) and be able to work closely with different time zones
  • Ability to work in an environment with rapid project turnaround and frequent priority shifts
  • Experience in docu-style or behind-the-scenes content (short or long form) showing a sophisticated eye for narrative structure and pacing, including an ability to build or highlight character and personality in Interviewees while also distilling complex or technical information down to its essence for viewer consumption
  • Experience in animated content including Boardomatic/Animatic work showcasing strong pacing and storytelling. Specifically trailers or commercials.
  • Familiarity with the process of creating in-engine animations in order to communicate both technically and creatively with the rest of the team
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects in a fast paced, dynamic environment
  • Ability to work as part of a team and to address notes and feedback from a wide range of stakeholders
  • International travel may be required as a part of this role
  • Must provide a reel of previous work

  • Frame IO, JIRA, Confluence, Smartsheet knowledge
