UI Artists at CIG are a key part of the UI team, they have the flexibility to create high quality graphics, design layouts, implement them in the game - all hitting the Star Citizen art style.

Responsibilities:

  • Create high quality layouts and visuals that fit the Star Citizen art style and the UI guidelines
  • Participate in early-stage meetings to provide insight into implementation requirements as well as potential challenges in implementing design concepts
  • Create and design UI layouts for complex gameplay systems with an eye towards creating the optimal flow for the given UI
  • Define the look of brands and logos for UI screens and environmental graphics. Iterate, present progress to the team and directors, document and create final quality imagery
  • Work with gameplay feature team but collaborating with Design Lead and UI Director to ensure that your work is consistent with the vision of Star Citizen’s Persistent Universe
  • Implement UI screens, animations, style sheets and graphic artwork in the game engine, iterating and working closely with other team members to achieve the desired results
  • Proactively engage in the collaborative process and provide feedback and suggestions to fellow team members
  • Actively learn new techniques, skills and proprietary editors and technologies that are appropriate to the job
  • Fulfill other such duties and responsibilities assigned by Cloud Imperium Games reasonably consistent with employee’s skills and experience

Requirements:

  • At least 3+ years of experience in designing user-interfaces for games and/or other related software mediums
  • Experience with software development processes and working within production deadlines
  • A portfolio showcasing exceptional design skill and affinity toward clean and modern visual aesthetics
  • Moderate to high degree of experience in Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Ability to clearly articulate reasoning behind design decisions
  • Internally driven and proactive, harboring a deep passion for establishing and maintaining great user experiences and stunning visual design
  • Up to date experience and interest in current PC and console games
  • Good communicator in English as this is globally CIG’s internal operating language
  • Must be willing to move to Austin, Texas once the COVID WFH period is lifted
  • International travel may be required as a part of this role

Pluses:

  • Experience working with version control software (Perforce, or similar)
  • Experience in animation or motion graphics (After Effects, Cinema 4D, Blender etc)
  • Experience of scripting in Unity, Unreal or HTML
  • Experience developing for VR devices
  • Experience working within CryEngine or Lumberyard
