Cloud Imperium is looking for an enthusiastic and technically minded Mission Designer to work on its ever-expanding Persistent Universe at its UK studio in Wilmslow (near Manchester).

The Mission Feature Team (MFT) you would be a part of is made up of a producer, designers, coders and embedded QA and is responsible for many aspects of the game, such as creation of the first implementation of new missions to then be handed off to other departments who will leverage them to create further content.

The team is also responsible for the generation of the content for regular in-game events or even the occasional demo. Previous examples of events are the various Fleet Weeks and the XenoThreat incursion.

As a Mission Designer, you will also help to create or develop design systems, such as law system and the prison gameplay loop along with the development, maintenance and support of existing content and systems.

What does a Mission Designer at CIG do?

  • The design, creation, ownership, documentation and championing of features, mechanics, missions, systems, etc as necessary.
  • Works in various in-house tools including Subsumption, a visual scripting editor to create logic for missions, systems and events.
  • Maintains a strong communication with other departments in which they must be comfortable being an advocate for “the player”.
  • Works closely with various other departments to improve AI, gameplay, mechanics, tools which impact our work or ability to work.
  • Works with Narrative to build engaging stories for mission and locations.

What do we expect from our Mission Designers?

  • Previous industry experience with ownership of features or missions
  • A good understanding of and prior experience with visual scripting or coding languages
  • Being equally capable of working independently and collaborating with peers
  • A willingness to follow and learn from the Star Citizen community using resources such as Reddit, Spectrum (our own forum), and Twitch. Especially during the Public Test phase of our quarterly releases where players are able to stream the patch currently being tested and we are able to react with daily updates
  • An ability to develop relationships with other departments and project a professional face of the MFT team
  • A capacity to work to frequent deadlines
