As a Backend Engineer, you will work on the cloud based online back end of Star Citizen, and its ground-breaking persistent entity streaming and server meshing system. You will architect and maintain game server communication with backend services to support our large scale, real-time MMO.

You will collaborate with industry veterans from our networking, engine and online-technology teams to architect and develop strong and robust solutions using modern cloud technology. You will work in a cross-platform environment, using high-end Windows PC as the primary development platform for our dedicated game-servers as well as Linux/AWS for our backend services.

What does a Backend Engineer at CIG do?

Design and implement scalable back-end services that support or control game features.
Implement client side code for communication with backend services.
Work closely with DevOps and the QA teams to provide documentation and support for services in the testing and production environments.
Diagnose and fix complex problems between multiple services.

What do we expect from our Backend Engineers?

Comfortable working with C++ in a large, shared codebase.
Experience in Windows and/or Linux.
Familiar with service-oriented architectures and microservices.
Understanding of asynchronous communication.
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment to deliver the best player experience.
