Cloud Chamber is looking for a collaboratively minded Systems Designer to join our global design team in Montreal to create memorable gameplay experiences. As a Systems Designer you will develop and maintain interactive objects, systemic gameplay loops, and world ecology features for the next BioShock. We want you to help us breathe life into a new and fantastical world. Together, we will set the stage for a stunning narrative and systems-driven experience.

Job Duties

  • Collaborate with multiple disciplines and contribute to the interactive toolkit that content designers will use to build the game world.
  • Create immersive interactive game content.
  • Work with the systems design and living world teams to develop interactive game. systems including civilian AI and systemic population.
  • Implement game systems in cross-disciplinary pods.
  • Develop working prototypes of game features.
  • Act as the primary owner of game systems implementation in cross-disciplinary pods.
  • Communicate progress, workflows and availability of game features to content developers.
  • Collaborate across development sites in Novato and Montreal on a day to day basis.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

You are a collaboratively minded designer eager to work with a global design team to create immersive interactive game content. We would appreciate someone who has a well-developed sense of how game systems connect and enhance one another in an emergent sandbox world, as well as for the player-facing signs and feedback that are required for an intuitive player experience. In addition, we value designers whose first inclination is to say “yes” to the player whenever possible, and regard edge cases as opportunities to increase the elasticity of the game’s simulation first, and as inconveniences to eliminate only as a last resort.

  • Previous experience on one AAA title as a systems, World Sim, or AI Designer
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, multi-site team setting.
  • A strong eye for player-facing signs and feedback.
  • Familiarity with Unreal and Blueprint scripting is desired.
  • A deep understanding of game mechanics, spatial design, and interactive pacing.
  • Fluent with game development tools and experience with pipelines, standards, and workflows.
  • Highly collaborative with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Current knowledge of the gaming industry development landscape, technology, and tools.
  • Know, love, and play games and care deeply about pushing the medium forward.
