Game Design Director

CCP London has an incredible opportunity for a talented individual to lead our design group on an unannounced online, multiplayer shooter. As an experienced Game Design Director, you'll bring strong design and tuning skills and will be excited to join a highly motivated team of programmers, artists, designers, and QA who are working to building a varied and unique user experience for the game.

We are a small team in the early stages of development, so this is a unique opportunity to make a big impact. As the Game Design Director, you will work with the Creative Director to understand the design intent of the Creative Director and convert that into design documentation consistent with the existing design and ready to be costed by the feature teams. You will lead a team of system, technical, mission, and level designers, and will be responsible for reviewing their deliverables.

Your Tasks:

  • Reporting into the Creative Director to understand and translate design intent into actionable work for your team. Maintain communication and consistency with art, audio, and feature team work
  • Maintain a clear and concise Game Design overview for the project
  • Clearly communicate design changes to production and the rest of the team
  • Incorporate feedback from Live Ops and Production teams that are consistent with the Creative Director’s vision
  • Lead, manage, and mentor a team of system, technical, mission, and level designers
  • Work with monetization team to integrate monetization designs into core mechanics
  • Ensure quality and timely delivery of documentation, levels, UI changes, gameplay tuning, and balancing
  • Ensure that the scope of work meets the needs of the feature teams and that the required work meets the velocity for your team members
  • Work with the analytics team to establish metrics needed to monitor gameplay performance and balance. Base tuning and gameplay decisions off data
  • Ultimately be responsible for driving high-quality feature implementation within the game vision and desired game β€œfeel”.

Your Profile:

  • Shipped a minimum of 1 game title as a Game Design Director on an online multiplayer game, preferably a shooter
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in design, with a thorough understanding of design documentation
  • Demonstrated knowledge of technical, tuning, level design, AI design, and balance issues especially in regard to a multiplayer shooter
  • Demonstrable track record of managing and mentoring game design teams
  • Solid understanding of game production design process and methodology
  • An excellent grasp of numbers, especially with respect to game modelling techniques
  • A demonstrable analytical and iterative approach to solving design problems
  • Strong organisational skills and experience of establishing enduring processes
  • Ability to balance the impact of deadlines and resources with creative and quality requirements
  • Strong time management skills with a proven ability to focus on priorities and meet deadlines
  • Ability to communicate effectively with executive level staff on a broad range of topics and convey complex ideas to audiences of varying design expertise
  • Comfortable getting hands-on where necessary in design documentation tasks.

  • Multiplayer shooter design experience
  • Tactical Shooter experience
  • Solid understanding of monetization Design
  • Experience working on a game in live operations
  • Experience with scripting tools or languages
  • Experience with UE4, especially blueprints
