Purpose: Oversees all aspects of a competitive Esports program, including, but not limited to, recruiting student athletes, scheduling competitions and practices, equipment maintenance, fundraising, and community activities.

Classification: Contractual

Reports to: Athletic Director

Principle Working Relationships: Athletic Director, Vice President of Student Services, Student employees, and IT staff

Major Responsibilities / Assists With / Risk Management

Major Responsibilities

  1. Identify and recruit potential student athletes.
  2. Retain current students as student athletes.
  3. Schedules and provides instruction for all practices, competitions, and events within applicable guidelines.
  4. Instruct, teach, and coach student athletes.
  5. Responsible for scheduling and budget control.
  6. Responsible for preparing and maintaining accurate records and reports in a timely manner.
  7. Attend scheduled Athletic Department meetings and communicate concerns/issues to the Athletic Director.
  8. Works with Marketing and Public Relations to provide accurate data for individual and team accomplishments as well as competition results.
  9. Maintains inventory of equipment, uniforms, and supplies.
  10. Effectively communicate with prospective students from point of inquiry through enrollment.
  11. Comply with applicable National Association of College Esports guidelines and rules.
  12. Coordinates team travel and competitions.
  13. Knowledge of computer systems directly required for Esports play.
  14. Ability to work pre-scheduled hours.
  15. Responsible for academic monitoring of team members.
  16. Works in cooperation with IT to maintain equipment.
  17. Maintain the cleanliness and order of the gaming arena.
  18. Adhere to the Coaching Ethics Code of the NJCAA.
  19. Other duties as assigned.

Assists With

  1. Conduct/and attend formal student orientation sessions.
  2. Promotion and marketing of the College and of Esports.
  3. Training and supervising student workers.
  4. Sandburg activities and overall athletic program.

Risk Management and Loss Prevention Activities

  1. Actively participate in and carry out activities in support of the college Risk Management Program in a capacity appropriate to this position.
  2. Monitor conditions, events and circumstances present in the college operation to avoid potential torts or injuries to students, staff, or the general public, and then communicate observations to the appropriate supervisor and/or Risk Management Committee.
  3. Ensure that all medical records and personnel records are kept confidential.
  4. Maintain a working knowledge of the college's emergency procedures and how to operate emergency phone systems; including internal/external call boxes.
  5. Strictly adhere to all College policies and procedures, particular internet and computer use, social media and ethics.

Minimum Necessary Skills, Experience, and Educational Background

  1. High school diploma or equivalent. Associates degree or higher preferred.
  2. Significant knowledge of Esports.
  3. Significant knowledge of computer equipment for Esports.
  4. The ability to communicate effectively with current and prospective students.
  5. Valid driver's license required.
  6. Willingness to work a flexible schedule with significant evening and weekend hours required.
  7. Currently certified for CPR/AED and first aid training or ability to obtain certification by employment.
