Carbonated is a games studio based in El Segundo, CA and only a 15 minute walk to the beach. The company was founded in 2015 by industry veterans who’ve built and run some of the biggest games in the world at companies like EA, Sony, Zynga and Blizzard. Our aspiration is to build a company where people want to spend their entire careers.

Our culture is largely based around a shared love of playing and building games as well as continuously learning and experimenting together. Unsurprisingly, we're focused on folks who share our key values:

  • Talent (you're a subject matter expert and amazing individual contributor!)
  • Attitude (you want to win! sure, experience is important, but that’s only part of what makes a great contributor, great)
  • Willingness to try new and sometimes scary things (so we can ship something we're all proud of!)

Right now we’re fortunate enough to be working on our dream game, a real-time social pvp battler (think if The Division had a baby with Eve Online) with a few fun twists!

THE ROLE

Our studio is pioneering new methods to blend AI and gameplay, and we are looking for a strong Senior Software Engineer to drive first-of-its-kind gameplay experiences to thrill our players!

You are absolutely obsessed with making a game fun! You love to collaborate very closely with designers, artists, and other engineers to quickly iterate on & build out new and engaging gameplay features while fine-tuning existing ones. You are forever curious about Gameplay & AI, and have experience and a focus on Squad-based AI tactics and maneuvers.

You will play an integral role in the development and innovation around complex AI, gameplay mechanics, and other modes of play alongside our design teams, constantly incorporating new features and ideas into the game.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Build: Work closely with the design team to iterate and develop AI behaviors, dynamics, and interactions, in addition to other client-side game features and systems
  • Raise the Engineering Bar: Participate in Code Reviews, develop and teach game-development best practices, and mentor more junior developers
  • Learn: Research games, and develop innovative prototypes, technologies, gameplay ideas, etc.
  • Push and Challenge: Everyone. Juniors, mid-levels, seniors, and ... beyond

WHAT’S REQUIRED

  • Above all else, making games is your jam
  • You’ve developed gameplay and/or AI for multiple shipped games, with experience in character behaviours, pathing, squad tactics, etc
  • At least 5 years Software Development experience in C/C++
  • Experienced in Object-Oriented Software Design & Implementation
  • Experience with native engines: Unreal, CryEngine, Lumberyard and/or other proprietary engines
  • Strong math skills with emphasis on 3D Math/Linear Algebra
  • Capable of collaborating across different disciplines to design & implement effective solutions
  • Ability to own a project from beginning to end
  • Proficient in Agile/Scrum development
  • Degree in Computer Science, Math or AI-related discipline(s)

WORST & BEST PARTS OF THE JOB

  • We work very hard
  • We're making something new which has the chance to be massive (also, we offer competitive benefits like Nearly Unlimited PTO)

EXTRA CREDIT

  • You like working on a small team that works fast and iterates often
  • You’re not afraid to roll up your sleeves and really dig in to make something awesome
  • You think working in a cool building near the beach sounds like fun
  • You like human-powered & electric bikes/Onewheels, dogs and/or kids

SOUND LIKE YOU?

  • Really? Awesome! Send us your resume!
