If so, Bungie is looking for you to be our next Design Director for Destiny 2.

A Destiny Design Director is responsible for the quality execution of their dev group Creative Director’s product vision. Design Directors work closely with their dev group Creative Director to understand Destiny 2’s creative vision and goals, then champions those goals to the team and across Dev Groups. The Design Director holds their team accountable for the quality of the experience, helping to break problems down into defined problem spaces and working with the Production Lead to assign them to individuals and teams. They closely monitor the health of the team and work with Dev Group Leadership to manage the human cost of our work. The Design Director is ultimately accountable to the Production Director and Creative Director of their dev group.

With the uncertainty and rapidly changing circumstances surrounding COVID-19, most positions at Bungie are expected to onboard and work from home for a significant portion of 2021. In 2022, most Bungie employees will adopt a flexible schedule working from home part time (outside of positions identified as either 100% onsite or fully remote in WA & CA). Currently only a select range of positions are available for full-time remote work in WA & CA (please review location for details). Prospective employees located outside of CA & WA will need to establish WA state residency within 45 days of a start date. Bungie’s work from home, flexible work schedule, and remote policy is subject to change at the company’s discretion.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate and align with internal and external dev group leadership to deliver on the larger product vision of the Game Director and dev group Creative Director
  • Work closely with the Dev Group Creative Director and Dev Group Production Director to convert conceptual goals into tangible execution plans
  • Meet regularly with the Franchise and Dev Group Design Directors, ensuring each group’s content is highly leveraged and tightly coupled for each release
  • Constantly evangelize the plans and executions across the team and other dev groups making sure that visibility, alignment, and buy-in are high
  • Challenge conceptual and execution concerns, balancing team health and product quality
  • Collaborate with other dev group Design Directors to manage resource prioritization
  • Regularly identify new strategic opportunities within your dev group’s scope of ownership
  • Monitor the current health of the game, identifying key needs to fix and key opportunities to act on
  • Collaborate with Area Leads, Creative Leads, or Design leads to drive the executional success of your dev group
  • Work closely with Area Leads, providing clear feedback, guidance, and direction to align the team’s execution to the Creative Director’s product vision
  • Define clear goals and constraints, building alignment on success criteria
  • Coordinate with Area Leads to maximize quality and meet expectations for major development milestones: Greenlight, Prog Rep, and Experience Complete
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, transparency, and trust, both within the dev group and within cross dev group interactions
  • Guide the team to develop and iterate on systems that improve core gameplay and increase player engagement and retention
  • Lead design reviews and evaluations, representing your dev group’s creative work to Destiny Leadership
  • Guide the feedback discussion and process feedback for your dev group, aligning with Destiny Leadership on points of direction or pivots
  • Assist Area Leads on strategies to address feedback, considering revisions of plans, vision, and execution where necessary

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • 3+ years of experience of internal game development experience in a creative leadership role within the design department (or comparable leadership role for a 50+ person team)
  • Exemplary communication skills, outstanding analytical skills, and attention to detail
  • Social and emotional intelligence, great interpersonal skills, and empathy for creative teams
  • Demonstrable Product acumen to inform subjective product opinions
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated, ability to set and achieve your own tasks
  • Commitment to the principles of servant leadership
  • Strong desire for Continuous improvement in all aspects of the job
  • Experience working on a live game ("game as a service") preferred
  • Experience working on and/or driving Team Health initiatives preferred
