Blizzard Entertainment is seeking a talented, motivated, and experienced database professional who will design, implement, and maintain, our relational database systems for performance and reliability. The ideal candidate must have the ability to troubleshoot complex issues and interface with developers and application owners to improve processes.

Responsibilities include:

  • Install, configure, and administer Oracle RAC Databases
  • Perform database upgrades, space management, database security, performance tuning, capacity planning.
  • Configure Oracle Dataguard and perform database migrations
  • Install, Configure, troubleshoot, and support Oracle GoldenGate Replication
  • Design and Implement backup and recovery strategies for production databases using Oracle RMAN incremental backup methods
  • Perform and produce procedural, knowledge, and troubleshooting documentation
  • Submit service requests to software vendors and drive to resolution
  • Collaborate with development team on performance management
  • Utilize OEM to monitor database health
  • Conduct thorough research and provide guidance on database design
  • Review processes and identify areas of improvement
  • Experience with PLSQL and SQL
  • Troubleshoot and resolve operational issues
  • Provide consultation and guidance to development teams
  • Build tools and scripts to monitor, troubleshoot and automate our tasks where possible (Ansible, Terraform, Python)
  • 24/7 rotation-based on-call support

Qualifications/Expectations:

  • 5+ years of experience with administration of production databases
  • Very strong understanding of database theory
  • Near mastery of a particular DBMS and deep understanding of its internals
  • Extensive experience in performance tuning of OLTP applications
  • Advanced UNIX/Linux skills
  • A passion for ownership over our organization’s most critical asset: data
  • Experience supporting database infrastructure in an extremely large (25000+ system) environment
  • Track record of working with very large-scale database deployments
  • Excellent Communication skills
