Blizzard Entertainment is seeking a talented, motivated, and experienced technical director (TD) to join our award-winning cinematics and animated short team. This Technical Director (TD) must have a thorough knowledge of look development, matte painting, FX, lighting, compositing and rendering tools, as well as back end and cross-pipeline workflows currently used in the CG and VFX industries. This TD role reports to the technology department but will be embedded in and work directly with our back-end production teams. They will work with technical and art supervisors to determine and implement workflows, tool requirements, asset needs, and pipeline efficiencies within their domain. There will be occasional crossover support for front-end departments, as well. They must be excellent communicators.

This position will be working in our Irvine CA location, however we are open to Remote workers.

Requirements

  • Thorough understanding of techniques and technologies relating to CG pipelines and workflows

  • Strong understanding of the CG production process, from asset creation to final compositing

  • Excellent debugging and problem-solving skills

  • Very strong working knowledge of Nuke

  • Strong working knowledge of Katana, Renderman, Maya, Photoshop, Houdini

  • Experience with RLS/Shader workflows, Mari

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience developing Python tools, and implementing process improvements in a CG production environment

  • Working knowledge of offline production rendering (RenderMan, Redshift)

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills

  • Strong desire to function in a technical support role

Highly Desirable Qualifications

  • Nuke production compositing experience, scripting, and API knowledge

  • Katana production lighting experience, scripting, and API knowledge

  • General TD experience
