Your Mission

The Developer Tech team at Blizzard is built to empower and optimize the process of game development. We are seeking a Lead Software Engineer that will begin with supporting the Blizzard Exceptions Ecosystem. Blizzard’s Exceptions Ecosystem handles incoming data from all over the world and offers critical insight into the health of all Blizzard products to their development teams. You will lead a small team of engineers as they develop, modernize, and solidify this critical system for the future of Blizzard games.

We're looking for a leader and engineer with a passion for mentoring and developing strong relationships with people from all different backgrounds and disciplines. Our ideal candidate is interested in managing and improving internal services and tools used by internal development teams.

What you bring to the table...

  • Support and improve developer facing technology and services

  • Develop project technical roadmaps, tasks, and prioritization

  • Participate in code reviews and architecture planning

  • Set clear expectations for team members; solicit, synthesize, and deliver feedback

  • Support and empathize with engineers from across development teams at Blizzard

  • Collaborate with other developers in identifying high value improvement opportunities

  • Write clean, testable code in service of developer enablement and empowerment

To succeed you must have...

  • Programming language experience (eg. C++, Java, JavaScript, C#, Go)

  • Excellent communication skills with developers of all disciplines and technical skill levels

  • Experience releasing and supporting software from development into production

  • Passion for creating stable, first-class tools and libraries

  • Knowledge of microservice architecture and development patterns

  • Ability to organize and coordinate teams of engineers toward a common goal

  • Understanding of software development debugging patterns

We’re also interested in hearing about...

  • Familiarity with compilers and build toolchains

  • Experience leading or mentoring engineers in a professional setting

  • Experience with relational SQL databases and database technology (eg. MSSQL, MySQL)

  • Experience with Windows, Linux, or Mac systems administration

  • Familiarity with cloud deployments (eg. GCP)

  • Experience with container technologies (eg. Docker, Kubernetes)

  • Experience with monitoring tools (eg. Grafana, Prometheus, InfluxDB)

  • Knowledge of branching and release strategies

In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is $121,500.00 - $224,880.00 Annual. This base pay range is for the U.S. and is not applicable to locations outside of the U.S. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location. In addition to a competitive base pay, employees in this role may be eligible for incentive compensation. Incentive compensation is not guaranteed.
