Blizzard Entertainment is looking for a motivated and experienced lead character technical artist to join its In-Game Cinematics department. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated rigging lead with experience heading up teams that build moderately complex character, vehicle, and prop rigs. The applicant needs a solid understanding of rigging pipelines and should be comfortable with Python development practices and various version control systems. The candidate will need to manage across varied procedural standards and multiple projects with a focus on helping to create and maintain standards.

COVID-19 Hiring Update: We’ve transitioned to a work-from-home model and we’re continuing to interview and hire during this time. This role is expected to begin as a remote position. We understand each person’s circumstances may be unique and will work with you to explore possible interim options.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of riggers that supports Blizzard In-Game Cinematics department project requirements
  • Assist in hiring and training all fulltime and temp personnel who will be working on In-Game Content
  • Collaborate with modeling and tech leads to set standards for clean, well-deforming topologies
  • Work closely with animation leads to determine and maintain rig standards
  • Teach and enforce rigging standards as required by our unique set of IPs
  • Work with Production staff to assign and prioritize tasks
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed

Requirements:

  • 5+ years professional experience leading tech art teams in game and film environments
  • In-depth knowledge of rigging systems, pipelines, and workflows
  • Knowledge of Python and MEL development environments
  • Knowledge of deformations and topology for both body and face
  • Proficiency in technical problem solving
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Strong leadership and communication skills

  • Experience working with large animation teams with multiple leads
  • Understanding of the Game development process
  • Ability to generate tools to facilitate the rigging pipeline
  • Passion for Blizzard Games and Cinematics.
