Do you love Hearthstone? Do you wish you could play Hearthstone and experience the new features and content before it is released to the world? Would you like to provide feedback to help make Hearthstone as fun and engaging as possible?
We are seeking highly motivated, positive, and passionate Game Balance Specialists to join our team and play our game to provide detailed and thoughtful feedback. You will partner closely with the designers to tune and balance the complex and intricate systems of Hearthstone.
COVID-19 Hiring Update: We’ve transitioned to a work-from-home model and we’re continuing to interview and hire during this time. This role is expected to begin as a remote position. We understand each person’s circumstances may be unique and will work with you to explore possible interim options.
Responsibilities
- Play games with an eye to their balance, pacing, and orchestration of progression systems. You will be playing unreleased games, features, and content. You will play from the perspective of different types of players, of varying skill levels and experience, and help us understand how the game balance feels and evolves over days, weeks, months, and even years worth of play. This will include both hands-on play as well as various methods to simulate deeper play experiences.
- You may also need to play games from other developers and provide thoughtful and insightful “tear-downs” of those games holistically and/or with a focus on a set of elements or features and evaluate against related aspects in our game.
Requirements
- Passionate about games. You need to be well-versed in a wide variety of games and platforms (mobile, console, desktop).
- Able to have thoughtful, energetic discussions and disagreements without losing sight of the end goal. Your feedback and ideas will be listened to carefully, but it may not necessarily drive change in the game. Your ability to professionally deliver your feedback and critique is essential.
- Excellent communication skills. You will need to be able to articulate your feedback with precision both verbally and in writing.
- Able to work independently with little direction or supervision with exceptional attention to detail and follow-up.
- A self-starter who takes initiative and brings forth new approaches and ideas to your work.
- Reliable, diligent, and someone with whom other people love to work.
- Have a solid capability with MS Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint, or equivalent G-Suite tools such as Sheets and Slides.
Pluses
- Familiarity with Unity.
- Experience as a game designer.
- In-depth knowledge of Hearthstone with experience in the various modes.
- Degree in game design or equivalent professional training.
Required Application Materials
- Resume
- Cover Letter (make sure to mention language proficiencies, if any).
- The cover letter should describe why you are interested in working at Blizzard, and what games you are currently playing.
**Only resumes with cover letters will be considered.
