Have you ever wanted to work at Blizzard? Our Character Modeling department is looking for a highly motivated Associate Rigging Support Artist to help the outsource team as we expand the scope of the Franchise and ramp up on production of Overwatch 2.

As an Associate Rigging Support Artist, you will get the opportunity to work in a structured training program that will level up your current skill interests, teach you aspects of the game pipeline, and grow your technical expertise within our proprietary game engine. This position will give you an all-encompassing view of what goes into making the characters of Overwatch.

In working on the outsource team, you will also be helping to refine and expand both the culture and capacity of our outsource group as we create content for both Overwatch 1 and 2 simultaneously. We are on the front lines of figuring out how to integrate remote teams of talented artists from all over the world to contribute increased flexibility and capacity for the Overwatch team. This will require your primary focus to be on the integration of character skins being produced by our external third-party vendors in addition to instruction on your own artistic interests to grow your knowledge base. It’s a great opportunity to learn how a diverse set of artists approach their craft while also working with them to improve process and workflows.

COVID-19 Hiring Update: We've transitioned to a work-from-home model and we're continuing to interview and hire during this time. This role is expected to begin as a remote position. We understand each person's circumstances may be unique and will work with you to explore possible interim options.

Responsibilities

  • Take files from 3rd party artists and implement them in the engine correctly
    • Set up files within Maya and the game engine
    • Skin weapon block-outs and final models for viewing and testing in-game
    • Implement already created LODs into model files and review for errors
    • Maintain organization of files
    • Add and review source files into our system
  • Review block-out models and final game models
  • Set up files character files in the editor for 3rd party artists
  • Troubleshooting 3rd party vendor problems and possibly polish art, when necessary

Requirements

  • Understanding of Maya, either primarily in rigging or modeling, preferably both.
  • Self-motivation, good communication skills, and a great team-player attitude
  • Able to work creatively as part of a large or small group
  • Able to effectively collaborate with modelers and tech artists
  • Skill in one of more related disciplines – modeling, rigging or technical art
  • Understanding of the visual style of Blizzard games
  • A passion for video games

Pluses

  • Experience in QA
  • Previous experience and proficiency with current commercial game engines such as Unity/Unreal
  • Industry experience in rigging, modeling, and game development in some capacity.
  • Have shipped an AAA PC or console title as an artist
  • Experienced with texturing within Photoshop
  • Experience with Zbrush or Mudbox
