WHO YOU ARE

We are looking for a team lead to manage our GuildWars2 tools team. Are you a clear communicator with a knack for reconciling the needs and capacity of your team with the needs of your team’s customers? Do you enjoy communicating with game designers, artists, and engineers to determine development tool needs and risks? If you are excited about building tools that facilitate building rich, immersive gameplay experiences efficiently, we would love to hear from you!

The Engineering team at ArenaNet thrives on a wide array of perspectives, experiences, and interests. We know that the best creations come from healthy and friendly teams. Our work is woven together with the efforts of other disciplines and crafts within game development. We seek out voices and ideas that might be new to us. We are always on the lookout for ways to help each other, both within the Engineering team, and throughout the studio as a whole.

REQUIREMENTS

You will need to have some prior professional leadership experience, especially in a software engineering environment, along with great cross discipline communication skills. Additionally, we will be asking you to work closely with studio leadership to communicate tool request scope/risk as well as provide insight into priority/severity of issues/tasks. It will be essential for you to mentor your team and promote good engineering practices to produce long term quality products; as such you should comfortable with C# and C++ and architecting robust and sustainable tools within them. Knowledge of various other programming languages such as Python, Javascript is a bonus.
