WHO YOU ARE

ArenaNet is looking for an experienced Prototype Artist to join our team and help us create expansive, beautiful worlds. In this role, you will be responsible for working closely with the game director, art director, and other developers on the team to rapidly prototype the visual look and feel of various art components of a game. You will take concept pieces and find creative ways to transform them into 3D world assets that capture the magic of the concept art, while finding ways to ground it in the world for successful gameplay and exploration.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Work closely with concept art, designers, and the art director to transform high level concepts into real world assets for the game.
  • Explore ways to implement art assets working closely with the creative director and art director to refine the look and feel of the game.
  • Partner with level design and environment art to determine the size, scale, and scope of the world and the art within it.
  • Proactively seek feedback regarding style, mood, and functionality.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

  • Strong portfolio with both 2d and 3d samples that shows expertise in creating both natural environment assets and those used in architectural settings for both set pieces and textures.
  • Proficiency in Maya (preferred), Max, Photoshop, and Zbrush. Substance Designer and Painter a plus.
  • Fast iteration skills.
  • Be a goldfish! Ability to rapidly throw out ideas that don’t work and try again, celebrating the learnings as wins.
  • Have the flexibility to be able to work on a variety of assets from hard surface to organic.
  • Passion for games and the game creation process, you play the games you work on and seek to deeply understand the player experience.
  • Significant experience collaborating closely with design, art, and engineering on cross-discipline teams with rapid iteration.
  • Experience with PBR art creation workflows a plus.
  • Experience in rapidly iterating in disciplines of art other than props/environments a plus.
