As an Advanced Cinematic Designer you’ll be the driving force in crafting cinematic moments in an online role-playing game, from cinematic events that blend with gameplay to traditional film-style cut-scenes. Imagine yourself as a film director, working with talented people across multiple disciplines to bring together a vision for a cinematic moment in an immersive game. Your teamwork and collaboration will bring out the best for the story and experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Working with the art, cinematic, narrative, design, and technical leadership, help guide and construct the visual storytelling of cinematic game play moments as well as crafted cut-scenes.
  • Utilizing the Unreal Engine, you’ll be doing camera work, layout set up (plugging in animation, FX, lighting, and overall choreography), editing, and audio planning to craft cinematics content.
  • Help build the pipeline and processes for cinematic content and create supporting documents. Building a good pipeline and documentation is vital for sustainability into the future.
  • Proactively identify opportunities and new problems to solve that will enhance the cinematic user experience of the game.
  • Help create prototypes or pre-vis, both technically and artistically, to communicate cinematic intent across the development team.
  • Assist with motion capture sessions that support cinematic content.
  • Validate the cinematic gameplay to ensure that the integrations did not cause any conflicts with the rest of the game or tools.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 8+ years of cinematic (film, TV, game cinematics, etc) related experience.
  • Shipped titles using Unreal Engine and Sequencer.
  • Portfolio demonstrating thorough understanding of composition, staging, camera, line of action, timing, and editing.
  • Capacity to ramp up quickly with custom tool sets and deliver assets within the confines of real time engine constraints.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to collaborate, taking direction from stakeholders on the needs for the scene, and communicating a vision across multiple disciplines.
  • Able to collaborate with engineering, tools, and tech art teams to find good technical solutions.
  • Experience with 3D software (MotionBuilder, Maya, etc.).
