Our product is an unannounced game on the Unreal Engine built by a team with veterans from many popular titles like EverQuest, Call of Duty, Far Cry, Guitar Hero, PlanetSide, H1Z1, and Free Realms.

What you'll do:

  • Design, develop, and operate highly available and scalable Game Services on AWS
  • Build and integrate web APIs to Unreal Engine games
  • Integrate with gaming platforms to support online play, persistence and economy systems, and platform-specific requirements
  • Monitor, measure, and improve services operations over time.
  • Be an advocate for players and developers: Insist on the highest standards, drive to operational excellence, help create functional and engaging customer-centric features.

This position involves on-call responsibilities, typically for one week every two months. We don’t like getting paged in the middle of the night or on the weekend, so we work to ensure that our systems are fault tolerant. When we do get paged, we work together to resolve the root cause so that we don’t get paged for the same issue twice.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Proficiency in at least one of the following languages used for backend services: go, python, java, ruby, nodejs, c++
  • Experience building microservices on the Cloud: API design, AuthN/AuthZ, database types, service-to-service communication, deployments, infrastructure-as-code, monitoring, etc.
  • Experience developing services in ambiguous problem spaces across the entire Software Development Lifecycle, from Requirements gathering, Design, Implementation, and Operations.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or equivalent experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience using Unreal engine
  • Experience on multi-discipline teams
  • 3+ years of game development experience
  • At least 1 shipped game titles (or equivalent) on which you were a primary contributor to Game Services requirements gathering, architecture, design
  • Experience with gameplay systems for which you've built content generation tools for.
  • You enjoy playing games and thinking about what makes them fun.
