Summary:

Age of Learning is seeking a full-time Senior Game Designer to add to our in-house development team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing educational games that fit into an adaptive learning ecosystem. You will collaborate closely with design and product leadership, curriculum experts, and development teams. Tasks include developing initial concepts, working with the product owner and stakeholders to ensure adherence to the product’s vision, providing clear documentation to the production team and evaluating the game’s performance from live data.
The position requires a high attention to detail and the ability to balance fun and learning with the goal of creating lasting learning outcomes for young kids.

Responsibilities:

    • Drive game design through all production phases-from concept to implementation, and finally to release
    • Develop game narratives that provide the player with meaningful context in which to learn or apply a concept
    • Work closely with user research team to conduct and evaluate user tests
    • Review game builds and provide notes to internal and external production teams

Required Qualifications:

    • 5+ years experience as a designer on kid-centric and/or educational/serious games projects
    • A passion for creating high-quality games that educate and entertain children
    • A deep knowledge and understanding of current trends and use in all areas of gaming (i.e., mobile, browser, social, etc.)
    • Ability to understand technical parameters as they apply to design implementations
    • Passion for technology and game development, with a dedication to and desire for perfection
    • Ability to learn quickly on the job
    • Strong collaborative skills, especially in multi-disciplinary team settings
    • Ability to speak comfortably and professionally with technical and non-technical team members
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills, especially with regard to communicating and documenting design decisions
    • Detail-oriented and self-motivated
    • Experience creating prototypes, digital or paper, for use in early play testing of game concepts

Preferred Qualifications:

    • Knowledge of contemporary children's' media, especially games
    • Experience developing games in an Agile environment, eg. Scrum
    • Experience using analytics to drive design evaluation and iteration
