Your Mission

As a supervisor on the User Research team, you will join an energetic, dedicated, and diverse team of user researchers to plan and organize research and evaluation efforts on the largest gaming franchises in the world. This role could be remote or onsite at the Activision User Research Center (AURC), located in Woodland Hills California. If remote, periodic travel to the AURC in Woodlands Hills would be expected. In this role, you’ll lead research study preparations by coordinating with Activision User Research staff and studio partners to schedule studies and source viable research materials. You will also have an active role in the training and mentorship of junior team members. By the end of your first year, you’ll be comfortable managing the lab and personnel schedules and have made strong working relationships with key contacts at our studio partners to source builds. Longer-term goals may include optimizing onboarding and training procedures or investigating various tools to expedite data collection and analysis procedures.

Priorities can often change in a fast-paced environment like ours, so this role includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:

  • Manage embedded research leads to schedule lab space and staff so that research studies are fully supported.

  • Coordinate with studio partners to source viable builds for research studies.

  • Coordinate with operations team to manage build deployment for research studies.

  • Liaise with research staff and studio partners to troubleshoot research study builds when necessary.

  • Assist with management of team wide knowledge base and archival of project results.

  • Supervise onboarding and training for junior staff on lab procedures and analysis methods.

  • Investigate new tools and procedures to optimize research planning, data collection, and analysis.

  • Audit and optimize research procedures.

  • Provide consistent feedback on research results.

Player Profile

Experience

  • Experience working in relevant field of game development (User Research, Production, Quality Assurance are preferred).

  • Experience collaborating across teams and business units to achieve goals.

  • Experience onboarding, training, and mentoring team members.

  • Experience with and passion for video games is a must, and an ideal candidate will be well versed in at least one of Activision’s titles.

  • Experience with management of direct reports.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

  • Deep familiarity with project management tools (scheduling, project tracking, etc.)

  • Familiarity with User Research principles and procedures.

  • Comfortable adapting to evolving situations.

Key Attributes

  • Must have a passion for video games, especially FPS or PvP multiplayer games.

  • Strong ability to manage time and resources based on organizational priorities.

  • Entrepreneurial mentality: ready to seek out opportunities to expand the value and scope of our offerings through relationship building and technical or methodological innovation.

  • Excellent interpersonal communication (both written and verbal).

Extra Points:

Experience

  • Experience with first person shooters on console or PC is a plus.

  • Team management experience is a plus.

  • AAA game development experience is a plus.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Familiarity with quantitative and qualitative research methods is a plus.

  • Familiarity with research design is a plus.

  • Project Management certification (PMP, etc.) is a plus.
