Job Description

The Call of Duty League is a global, world-class esports ecosystem designed from the ground up to ensure that teams and players can thrive for years to come, and that fans have the best experience possible. The Call of Duty League melds Activision Blizzard’s experience in esports with best practices of time-honored traditional sports.

The Sr. Director, Product, will lead the year-round general management, product development, strategy, cross-franchise and studio collaboration, and operational execution of the Call of Duty League and all Call of Duty Esports products globally across professional, amateur, influencer-based, and other ecosystems. This highly dynamic role requires the ability to set both a short- and long-term vision for Call of Duty Esports through the lens of increased fan engagement, positive team owner and player experiences, and financial success for the Call of Duty Esports portfolio. Serving as a key spokesperson on behalf of the Call of Duty League, the successful candidate will possess strong familiarity with launching and operating world-class gaming experiences, while constantly challenging the status quo, motivating cross-functionally, managing budgets, and overseeing multiple workstreams in a fast-paced, highly creative environment. They will also identify key requirements for the Call of Duty Esports products across league operations, game studios, franchise business units, broadcast, events, content, publishing, PR, community, sponsorships, digital, and more. Their broad expertise and thirst for entrepreneurial endeavors will drive convincing partnership with key stakeholders and leads across all of Activision Blizzard.

This role will report into the Head of Leagues, Activision Blizzard Esports.

Responsibilities

  • Inform and lead global product development and strategy, ensuring successful execution that advances the league vision
  • Identify requirements for a broad range of business and league operations, including broadcast, events, content, publishing, PR, community, sponsorships, web, MTX and other areas
  • Build and execute Call of Duty Esports product plans, including conceptualization and iteration of league features, competition design, and operational approach
  • Engage with Call of Duty League team owners and other team and player personnel in both formal and informal forums and presentations
  • Work closely with the game development and publishing teams for strong integration between game and esports product launches and key marketing beats
  • Support strategy development and team franchise process through deep knowledge of league and program operations
  • Serve as a primary spokesperson on behalf of Call of Duty League with media and other outlets
  • Strategic, collaborative approach with the ability to build credibility and trusting relationships across the organization and externally
  • Identify opportunities for community and player engagement, adoption and support of programs
  • Assist in developing key performance indicators to measure success
  • Provide visibility and transparency to the Head of Leagues, Activision Blizzard Esports leadership, and the wider organization through frequent communication and reporting
  • Be a champion for strong team culture, teamwork, transparency, and positivity

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, sports administration, related field or equivalent work experience
  • 10+ years’ experience in gaming and/or esports management or product development, sports business or operations management, corporate strategy or related field
  • 4 years’ experience leadership and team management
  • Expert knowledge of professional, grassroots, and amateur esports programs globally
  • Driven to challenge the status quo
  • High degree of business insight and results orientation
  • Demonstrated successes in designing, implementing, supporting and evolving global esports programs
  • Ability to navigate highly matrixed organizations with tact and in the spirit of collaboration
  • Experience establishing successful cross-functional teams
  • Strategic thinker with strong leadership, management, and communications skills
  • Experience managing budgets and P&Ls
  • Possess excellent interpersonal and diplomatic skills, while maintaining an ability to always stay focused on the work at hand
  • Strong communications and presentation skills, with the ability to work with other members across the organization
  • Able to organize thoughts and make decisions under time constraints and a full workload
