343 Industries, the studio that oversees the award-winning Halo video game and entertainment franchise, is looking for a talented Senior Gameplay Engineer to join the Sandbox team working on Halo Infinite. As a Senior Gameplay Engineer, you will focus on close collaboration with a team of designers, engineers and artists to build out and polish new features in the Halo Universe.

Our Sandbox engineering team is a team of skilled generalists, and our mandate is to bring the vision of our designers to life in ways that are stable, scalable, performant and re-usable. The focus of the role will be on implementation of both high and low level gameplay systems spanning vehicles, weapons and player control and systems in a combination of C++ and Lua.

Candidates should expect to work across a range of technologies to fit the needs of the team – and all candidates should be comfortable diving into and working in lower-level engine code in order to debug any problems that might arise during day to day development. The ideal candidate will enjoy working in a highly collaborative environment and will need to have both solid technical and communication skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Own and drive development of systems and features for the Sandbox team
  • Develop deep understanding of our gameplay systems with minimal assistance
  • Improve existing systems that are not performing to required standard
  • Investigate, debug and fix complex issues arising in the engine
  • Consider user impact features for designers and artists when designing low-level systems and features

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional gameplay programming experience
  • 5+ years of experience in C++
  • Solid understanding of gameplay systems
  • Solid understanding of gameplay networking
  • Comfort working with large complex codebases
  • Ability to execute feature requests within a highly constrained environment
  • Willingness to dig into the details of complex problems

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience with modern game engines and technologies
  • History of successful feature execution in a legacy environment
  • Networked first person shooter experience
