As an FX technical artist your role places you at the center of a collaboration hub. This key position bridges the core graphics engineering team with the FX art team. You will be a conduit of information, making sure that each team stays informed with the needs and aspirations of the other. This will include conveying FX teamโ€™s requests to the core graphics team and ensuring each ask is technically ratified. Critical for planning and delivery will be conveying to the FX artists which features and changes will be arriving from the engineering team. As a part of this process, the FX Technical Artist will be testing integrations to make sure the requests meet with expectations in form, function, and performance.

Good technical communication skills are essential for establishing a productive working relationship and successful collaboration between the two teams. This person will be the go-to person for the FX artists when they need an explanation and better understanding of the implementation of graphics features. They will also help the graphics engineers understand the process of creating FX by providing technical insight, and thus, enabling better solutions. The FX Tech Artist will be developing shaders for the artists and working with the FX Art Lead to raise the visual quality bar of Halo FX, helping to drive the implementation of the latest and greatest particle rendering techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Co-Develop rendering infrastructure to facilitate some of the latest Particle rendering techniques and shaders.
  • Investigate and correct FX performance problems.
  • Troubleshootrenderingand shader problems encountered by the FX artists.
  • Facilitateeffective collaborationand communication between Graphics engineers and the FX team.
  • Test andapprove new tool and rending codebefore mainline integration.
  • Mentorother Technical Artistsin maintaining FX assets, with LOD information and general performance related tasks.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of professional game industry experience.
  • Abasic understand of graphics code, and a passion to expandtechnical knowledge in this area.

Preferred Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

  • Shipped or contributed to at least one video game,filmor TV series.
  • Strong knowledge of real-time particle simulations and photorealistic FX development.
  • Experience writing shaders.
  • Understanding of lighting,compositingand rendering techniques.
  • Professional experience using at least one scripting language like Python, Lua,Hscript, Vex, Mel.
  • Experience with a programming language like C, C++, C#, etc.
  • Experience using game engines such as Unreal, Unity, etc.
  • Experience using Autodesk Maya or equivalent tool such as Max, Modo, etc.
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop or similar.
